DaVinci IQ3 vs IQ2: What's New and Should You Upgrade?

DaVinci's IQ line has been the thinking person's portable vaporizer for years: milled aluminium, a ceramic zirconia vapour path, and temperature control precise enough to matter. The IQ2 earned its fanbase. Now the IQ3 is here at ~£349, and the question writes itself — what's actually new, and does it justify replacing an IQ2 that still works?

The four real improvements

Heat-up time: ~30 seconds down to ~20. On paper a third faster; in practice the difference between standing there waiting and just… starting. Quick sessions — a few draws between things — are where the IQ3 feels like a different device.

USB-C at last. The IQ2's micro-USB port was the most dated thing about it. The IQ3 charges faster, and it's one less obsolete cable in your life. Both models keep the removable 18650 battery, which remains the feature I'd defend hardest — a charged spare turns battery anxiety into a non-issue.

Better battery economy. Same cell format, smarter power management: the IQ3 squeezes out noticeably more session time per charge than the IQ2's 6–8 sessions. Temperature still dominates — run either device hot and the battery pays for it.

A cooler, smoother draw. The redesigned airflow path is the upgrade you feel rather than measure. The IQ2 was already smooth for a conduction portable; the IQ3's draw is cooler on the throat at the same temperatures, which makes higher-temp sessions far more pleasant.

Buying your first DaVinci? IQ3, no hesitation. The gap in day-to-day pleasantness — heat-up, charging, draw — is worth the price difference over a full-price IQ2, and you're buying the model DaVinci will support longest.

Happy IQ2 owner? Keep it, honestly. Nothing here is transformative: your device still produces the same quality vapour with the same temperature precision. The IQ3 is an evolution — the same idea, executed a bit better everywhere. The upgrade makes sense when your IQ2 battery setup ages out or if micro-USB genuinely offends you, and a discounted IQ2 is now one of the best value buys in portables for someone else.
